A Year Later...

You’ll have to humor me a little bit…. Today is a special one for us at the Beaver Dam for lots of reasons, and I just have to “get my words out” for a minute. Know what I’m sayin’? Cool.

July 23rd of last year was the day that brought on THIS POST, which I have read over and over today, along with the sweet comments. I will always remember that day vividly, down to the tiniest detail. I remember what I wore, what Reagan and David were wearing, what Mary got me for lunch (how I ate anything, I have NO idea), what sweet Uncle Turbo bought Reagan on their outing to ToysRUs, what the doctors wrote on the reports, what the stupid nurse said to me that was supposed to make me feel better (she was trying, but SERIOUSLY), how those moments in prayer together with David were probably the most real we’ve ever been with each other, and so so so much more. But as I type this, and tears roll down my cheeks, I am just praising our Faithful Father for all He’s brought us through. If you’re reading this, then you know how DARN PRECIOUS our Brooklyn is and how she has surpassed all those yucky worst case scenarios like crazy. You know what a JOYFUL spirit He has put in her, and how she lights up a room. How she can SEE with those gorgeous baby blues that have the most amazing eyelashes. (Thank you Jesus.) I am thankful beyond any possible words for all those things, and I look forward to seeing so much more He is going to do for her and through her. But honestly, July 23rd will always be a day when I am reminded of all God is doing for ME. I’m not sure I have ever really put this into words, or if I really can and do it justice, but being pregnant with Brooklyn was the hardest thing I hope I ever have to endure. Scary beyond words. Put that kind of scary with all the other yucky normal pregnancy hormonal stuff, and man, those months were ROUGH. Everyday was so hard, the fear of the unknown was so great, there were days when I honestly didn’t think I could do it…. days where I literally wanted to crawl in a hole and not get out. (Thankfully I had cutie pie Reagan around who would never let me!) Doctors can tell you, and you can tell yourself even, not to worry. Man, what the heck does that even mean?? Even Scripture tells me not to worry, but I confess to failing that Big Time. So, thank you to a Gracious God and faithful friends for carrying me though the roughest months of my life. And still doing so.

Brooklyn’s life as an infant is probably as “normal” as she will ever have it. Her challenges are really yet to come, and I hate that for her. We continue to pray every single day that she receives Healing, but I know that my ways are not His. Regardless of what her future holds, she is going to have a REMARKABLE story to tell. And I can’t wait to share with her how loved and prayed over she was from July 23rd, 2008 – on. I have a favor to ask of those reading this…. and I’m going to leave it up for awhile so as many can read it as possible. Someday (hopefully sooner than later) I hope to print my blog in book form for my girls. And I know that there are many of you that read it, some that I don’t even know about! So (remember, you’re humoring me!), if you are reading this right now and have at ANY TIME over the last 365 days stopped your life for a moment and said a prayer for Brooklyn and our family, would you please leave a comment that tells her that? Whether you comment all the time or never have, I want this to be a specific list to show her. And this date seems the best to do it. Even if you have to sign in as “anonymous,” please sign your name in your comment so she can see it someday!! I mean, how cool will that be?!?!?! Cool for me too, I’ll admit.

So, here is our sweet girl in her chair for her 7 month picture (taken a few days late, since we were on vacation on the 9th). Taken twelve months after doctors told us we would plan a funeral and she would never be ours. Taken twelve months after we found out what a special addition she would be to our family. Taken twelve months after God said, “Jodi, I’ve got a really special baby girl that I need you to be Mommy to. I’ll give you what you need, and I’ll give her what she needs.” And darn it, if she isn’t the cutest, sweetest thing EVER!!? Thank you LORD for our Brooklyn Hope!!!!

Don't forget to leave her a comment! B thanks you. :)

My name is Ashton Beaver and I was actually in your mommy's cabin out at Camp Deer Run one year. She is one of the sweetest people and God truly knew what He was doing by giving you to her. I have been keeping you in my prayers since the day I found out about you. I have never met you but from what I see in pictures you are a sweet little girl. Keep that sweet spirit and always follow what God has in store for you.

You are loved Brooklyn and I am so thankful to have this time to see God answer many of our prayers over the past 365 days. We love you to pieces-Susan

Hi Brooklyn! I have been praying for you and your precious mommy ever since we found out about you. I love your mommy as if she is my very own cousin (she is my husband's cousin) and I am just ever so thankful to our wonderful God at what a miracle you are! You are so blessed to have the amazing parents you have and your incredible big sister, Reagan. I pray to God to thank Him for your health and continue to pray to Him to always be there. I also pray that you always have that beautiful smile that lights up your beautiful face!

My name is Joni. I knew your mom when we were young and found your story through mutual friends. I have praying for you since that day. You are such a beautiful, precious girl! Brooklyn, you are so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful family and friends who love you very much. God, your family and friends are and will always be your support system and your source of strength. There isn't anything you can't do without Him.

Brooklyn - I was praying for you long before you were born back when I knew how much your mommy and daddy wanted another baby. Then I spent hours in prayer and tears the day we thought you weren't going to make it. (I cried so much that day that Roselyn offered me her pacifier.) Then I prayed many prayers of thanksgiving when I found out the doctors were wrong and that you were such a litle miracle. I prayed many worried prayers when you were born and soon after when you had to have surgery. And since then, I have prayed many prayers for your continued growth and health. You have very special parents that love you so much and are so perfect to take care of you. You are such a blessing and a joy to everyone who sees your sweet smile. Your mommy tells me all the time how wonderful you are and what a sweet and happy baby you are. I know that you will continue to be a joy and blessing to them as you grow, and I look forward to watching you grow up. Not too quickly, though. Take your time.

Love you so much,

I actually started reading your blog periodically before "July 23, 2008." I am a pediatric speech pathologist and worked with Hollie Reese in Dallas. I "sent" my cousin Allison Breeding here as well just a month or so later. I don't know you, but have been praying for your family for the past year. Knowing all that I do from a medical and developmental standpoint, I have prayed, cried, and celebrated alongside you. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. Your girls are both precious.

It is true, HE knows the plans HE has for you sweet Brooklyn!

Brooklyn,
I know your mom from camp too. She and your daddy and sister love you so very much. It is so obvious from the sweet words mom writes about you and the sweet faces in all the pics I see. You are one prayer-covered little girl. I haven't seen your family in years, but I keep up with your blog and I have been praying for you since before you were born. I have more friends and family that has prayed for you too. God has obviously given you a precious, loving, joyful, conquering spirit and I pray He continues to use your life to inspire people and give Hope--like your name. Bless you dear girl. You will be a conquerer and a sweet breath of life to all kinds of people. Love, Sarah Cox

Dear Brooklyn Hope, your mom has always been very special to me. When we found out about you, we prayed for your future, and prayed for your health, and prayed for your relationship with Abba God, who loves you, and made you, and will always watch over you. I know He is faithful, and I am so thankful He is answering all of our prayers concerning you.

Brooklyn, I met your Mommy several years ago when we were in college. I'm not sure she would even remember me. When blogland came about, hers was one that I stumbled across through mutual friends. I remember this date last year when I read the results on her blog and immediately began to pray for you. Even though I do not truly "know" your Mommy, I can tell you through her words she has been a shining example to many people. I see the spirit in her and in you and it is wonderful to know that you are doing so well and far surpass anything they ever predicted you to be. His love radiates from each picture of your smiling face. You are so blessed to come from such a wonderful Christian home and know that the prayers do not end here, but continue for you always. Sincerely, Meredith 'Garner' Powell

Brooklyn,
I know your family because your daddy works with my hubby at NASA and they became good buddies over the last year (pulling pranks and getting into all sorts of mischief I believe). So I knew you were on the way and in your mommy's tummy and we prayed so much for you before your were born. I had my son Sam in my tummy too, so my heart especially went out to your mommy. What a miracle you are! I have kept up with all you've been up to through the blog and we have continued to pray for you over the past year. I love seeing pictures of your beautiful face and twinkly blue eyes! Always remember that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, sweet girl.

Sweet Brooklyn,
My family has been praying for you continually for a long time. Not long after your Mommy and Daddy found out they were going to get a very special little Brooklyn I found out that we were going to get a very special little Cannon, who is just like you. I know that you two will be great friends! Although we haven't met yet, through uplifted prayers and stories from your Mommy I feel very blessed to know you. You are a jewel, a beautiful little girl, and I know the Lord has BIG plans for you. I will always be praying for you, and loving every moment shared with the Lord on your behalf. You will have some tough days ahead, but rest assured you will always have tons of cheerleaders helping you along. And will always always have everything you need in the Lord.
May He bless you always.

Our sweet little dumpling,Brooklyn,
How can a little girl bring so much joy into the world in only 7 months? We have prayed for you, like we did your mommy, before we new God was bringing you to us. And we were heartbroken and terrified when the doctors said we might not get to keep you. We poured our hearts out to God asking Him to intervene for you with His power and grace. And He showed His love and compassion with a blue eyed, joy filled little girl. We continue to pray for you daily. We look forward with eager anticipation to God's revealing His glory in your sweet life. He will be with you every step that you take. Your Grandmommy and I love you and your precious sister and your mommy and daddy with all our hearts. And we praise God for bringing you to us.
Your granddaddy and grandmommy

Dear Brooklyn,

You are so loved and by so many people that you don't even know! My (then) 6 year old daughter prayed for you every night--either at the dinner table or in her bed. She always said, "Please help Brooklyn and her tailbone."

I think my favorite is when someone told me that your grandfather (Larry) said a prayer that "God would show His power through you." I have always remembered that phrase and thought about it as I read your mommy's post.

Can't wait to meet you ONE OF THESE DAYS!

What a blessing it has been to pray for you this year. I believe in the miracle of your life and glory that God receives by your smiling face. You have been a precious blessing to all of us.

Your mommy and I lived together in college and she is SO very special to me. My journey in loving you came before she even had you in her tummy because she wanted you there badly and we had many conversations about this.

We love you all the way from Lubbock!

Dear Beaver Family,

This message comes all the way from Ann Arbor, Michigan. I found your blog through the Texas Triplets who are related to another set of triplets in Huntsville, Alabama, my home state. Their mommy (of the Morrow Triplets) and I went to high school together. I thought how rare it is that two families related to one another would have triplets so I thought I would read about their adventure. It was here that Hollee posted on her blog prayer requests for your family.

Since that time I make it over to your blog to read about the marvels of God and what great things he his doing through you and your family. My family prays for you and your future endeavers. What a strong and beautiful little girl you are and how lucky your family is to have you.

I have been avoiding writing this...it just seems like so much pressure. I want to choose the perfect words! I probably won't but I will do my best to tell you what your life is like from my view point. Every night when I would put my baby Kanyon in the bed I would say a prayer. It was always about him, his healing, his health, or his future. THEN YOU came along, miss priss, and our special prayer time became one for you too. I knew then that I wouldn't forget to pray for you and that you and Kanyon would be friends, maybe even Sadie's Dates one day. Your parents are perfect for you and I pray that you will be blessed with a husband and children of your own so you can understand the depths of their love for you. We are already seeing glimpses into your personality and your gifts. I have no doubt that those will be used in big ways. You are so very very very very very loved.

Sweet Brooklyn,

Little girl, do you have any idea how much you are loved? We have always prayed for you, but our prayers were kicked in full gear when your Mommy and Daddy received scary news in July of 2008. We weren't sure if you were going to come into the world to be with us or not. We prayed and prayed for you, sweet girl. I am so thankful that a year later, you are here with all of us! You always have a smile on your face and you (and your big sis) have the prettiest blue eyes! :)
Although I have not met you yet (I will though!!), I love you and am so proud of you!
Thank you God for blessing all of us with sweet Brooklyn! We have already learned so much from her.

p.s. I apologize for all of the screaming and loud singing that your mom and I did at the New Kids concert while you were in her tummy. :) haha

Precious Brooklyn:
I know your sister, your Mom and your Daddy and YOU even though we've never met. We share a special connection because, you see, my son, Bryan, has spina bifida too. I remember the first time I read your mom's blog. You were still in her tummy and while she was scared, she also knew God was with all 4 of you during this time. I tried as best I could to offer words of encouragement. To tell your mom that while the road would not be what she and your Daddy expected, it would be an amazing, incredible journey, and I know from reading ea. day, that has been so true! While spina bifida may be something that you were born with, it will not...does not define who you are! You are Brooklyn, the daughter of the King and how wonderful you are! You are special beyond special in the joy you will always bring to others. God gave you a special blessing of the gift of bringing Light to others...you prove God's love by your amazing spirit.
My prayers are with you, sweet girl, as you grow to be the wonderful woman God created you to be. You're future will be amazing, your journey unbelievable...because of the wonderfulness of you!!! My prayers always, Jo Ann, Bryan's Mom DOB 09/26/87

Oh sweet Brooklyn,
I have stopped several times during your precious life and prayed for you. In the beginning I prayed for a miracle for you and your family and now I continue to pray prayers of praise every time I see your precious face on this blog. You are a true testimony to Ephesians 3:20. His power is definitely at work within you and He has healed you in so many ways that are above what even doctors imagined were possible! What a blessing you are, sweet girl! I have known your mommy a long time and have always had a special place in my heart for her, your grandparents and Uncle Adam. I am so glad I have the chance to see the wonderful ways the Lord is using your precious little life to be an inspiration to so many! I hope that some day I get to meet you and your sister!

I can't tell you how super excited I was to find out that not only would Cassidee be best friends with your sister Reagan, but that you would be close in age to Cason and get to grow up with him, too. You had us scared for a little while but we always trusted that God knew the plan for you. You have already touched so many people in your short little time with us and I can't wait to see what he is going to do with the rest of your life. You are a special girl, Brooklyn Hope, and I'm honored to know you, hold you, love on you, and be so close to your family. You are so loved, sweet girl, and are lucky to have the fantastic mommy, daddy, and big sister that you do. We love you so, so much!

Yes - I have prayed for your sweet girl, Brooklyn as you know, over the past year and will keep on praying for all of you.

We were told 15 years ago that our daughter would only live 2 to 5 years since she was DX with ALS - Lou Gehrig's disease - at the very young age of 23 years old - when the norm age is around 55 to be DX with this illness -

God gave us a special girl also as HE gave you - Marcie has lived 15 1/2 years with ALS - and it is all God's doing - HE is keeping her with us for a reason - and we know that and we thank God ever day we have her - she has touched the lives of so many people over her life time and for sure for the past 15 1/2 years -

Just as Brooklyn Hope has touched the lives of so many people over the past year and will touch so many more lives as the years go on.

So we both have "special gifts from God" And one day when you are in Texas we will met - face to face - you and our girls.

Love to all, Linda

Sweet Brooklyn,
Words are inadequate to describe the joy I feel for your precious life. Even before that fateful day where your mom and dad's world turned upside down, I knew you were destined for great things. Afterall, you are a part of your Mommy and she is one of the most special people I know!

God has already used your life in so many ways to touch others, and this is just the beginning. I know the road will not always be easy and there will be challenges along the way, but I have confidence that the LORD will see you through those times, just as he celebrates with you in your victories!

So, even though we have never met, know you are loved and prayed for by my family. I look forward to the day when I see you out in Abilene in your wildcat shirt (don't tell your daddy that you like purple better than orange!)

As I read your mom's words and the confidence she has in a faithful, in control, never surprised, always loving God - it strengthens me and reminds my family of His faithfulness. Your family has been such an encouragement to us as they have chosen to cling on to Jesus and show us how to be a bright light for Him in all circumstances.

Hi Brooklyn,
I am your daddy's cousin from Louisville and I just saw you for the first time at Joe Sasse's wedding. Your smile and big blue eyes are infectious and you let me hold you without any fussing.
I look forward to seeing you over the years and can't wait to see God's plan in your life. Always remember, even though we may not see you but once a year, you have a whole family in Louisville who loves you and are your biggest fans! Hugs and Kisses to you, Reagan, Jody and David

Dear Sweet Brooklyn,

I know your mommy from CDR and what a great mommy you have. I have stopped and said a prayer for you as often as possible. You are such an encouragement to everyone with your sweet smile and all of the trials your little body has endured that haven't even phased you. God is going to do great things in your life.

Much Love,
Sarah

Precious Brooklyn,

You, your sister, and your mom and dad have been in my prayers ever since your mom shared that she was carrying you. You are such a beautiful, wondrous gift to your family, and I praise God for your life, and am amazed at how, through your beautiful spirit, God is glorified. I pray that as you continue to grow, you will never forget how much God loves you, and how many lives and hearts he touches through you.

Brookly, We prayed for you while you were in your mommy's tummy and we still pray for you. You are so precious to all of us. We love you, your mommy and daddy, and your grandmommy and granddaddy. But more importantly, God loves you and always will.

I stumbled across your blog while you were still pregnant with Brooklyn. I went to ACU and was on someones sight and then happened to get to yours. I check your blog regularly and love to see the progress that Miss Brooklyn has made. I will continue to keep her in my prayers. I think printing out your blog for your girls is a wonderful idea!

Dear Sweet Brooklyn,
Your mommy was a dear friend of mine in college and we even lived together for a year...I knew then God had a very special plan for her. And now I know and see Gods special gift in you. I prayed each and every day for you before you where born and I still pray for you and your life ahead of you. Seeing your beautiful smile warms my heart and I know God has very special plans for. Right now you are showing us (all of your blog followers) Gods work and love just through your bright blue eye and that smile!!! I love you even though I have not met you, but I do look forward to that day I get to meet you.
Love, Chris Ballard

Not sure if I've ever left a comment or not because I don't even know your mommy but through a friends blog (Stefany Bowers). I have followed your story for a long time now and how wonderful is our GOD to have blessed us all with it! I have a little girl born just before you - Eden Noel on November 25th - and we love to see what you are up to. God is so amazing and has given you as a gift to everyone who knows you. Love your smile - it's a reminder of how sweet our Jesus is.
